Citrus County School District, Florida

Citrus County, Florida - On Tuesday evening, October 14, 2025, Citrus County School District Police Chief Rachel Montgomery made a post on Facebook, detailing a swatting bomb threat that was recently sent to 46 school districts in Florida:

"We sincerely apologize for the late notification, but we want to ensure we communicate any safety information with you as quickly as possible.
The Citrus County School District has been made aware of a possible bomb threat circulating through a “swatting” email thread.  A swatting message refers to a false report or communication made with the intent of triggering an unnecessary law enforcement response.  These messages can take many forms, including phone calls, texts, or e-mails.
At this time, forty-six school districts across the State of Florida have received the same email, which does not include any specific details or direct threats to any individual school campus.  There is no indication that this is a credible threat to our schools.  We wanted to inform our parents directly to prevent the spread of rumors or misinformation.
We are taking the message seriously and working closely with local and state law enforcement to get the matter thoroughly investigated. Schools will remain open and operate on a normal schedule tomorrow.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation as we continue to prioritize the safety and well-being of all members of our school community.
Citrus County School District limited who can comment on this post."
