Firefighters battle Friday night blaze to Lecanto log home

Lecanto, Florida – At approximately 9:56 p.m. on Friday, October 10, 2025, Citrus County Fire Rescue (CCFR) was dispatched to a residence located on S. Bauer Road in Lecanto due to reports of a fire.
The Ladder 23 crew from Fire Station 23, located on on S. Kensington Ave. in Lecanto, arrived on scene at 10:03 p.m. to find a two-story log home 60% involved with heavy fire showing from several sides
Crews immediately began fire suppression efforts while conducting a search of the first floor. Access to the residence was initially delayed by a low-hanging utility line along the narrow driveway, but firefighters quickly compensated by advancing hose lines to the home.
Firefighters conducted multiple searches of the structure, confirming that no one was inside the home at the time of the fire.
The fire was bought under control at 10:30 p.m. by numerous fire stations that worked together in offensive and defensive operations: fire stations 3 (Homosassa), 5 (Hernando), 7 (Connell Heights), 20 (Pine Ridge), and 23 (Kensington).
Extensive overhaul and cooling operations were required due to the amount of fire damage. Units remained at the location, for several hours, to assist with mop-up, scene lighting, and coordination with the Florida State Fire Marshal’s Office, which is investigating the cause of the fire. All fire units cleared the scene by 1:54 a.m.
The home and its contents sustained an estimated $268,000 in damages.
