Floral City, Florida – At 1:43 p.m. on Friday, October 3, 2025, Citrus County Fire Rescue was dispatched to a residence located n S. Oakview Ave. in Floral City due to a reported fire.

The first fire unit arrived at the location at 2:02 p.m. to find a single-wide mobile home approximately 30% involved in flames. Firefighters from Engine 8 (the Inverness Highlands fire station) applied hose lines to the fire by 2:04 p.m. and began an aggressive fire attack. The fire was declared under control at 2:11 p.m. The power company secured utilities. The last unit cleared the scene at 3:30 p.m.

Crews from multiple fire stations assisted with the fire and conducted two searches of the home, which confirmed that no occupants were inside.

The Red Cross was contacted to assist the displaced residents.

Investigators determined that the fire was accidental, caused by electrical arcing from a wall outlet after a laptop computer was plugged into the outlet.

Witnesses reported that the homeowner and a bystander had attempted to extinguish the fire with a garden hose and a fire extinguisher before crews arrived, but the fire spread too quickly for them to control.

It was also determined that there were no smoke detectors in the home. Fire officials stressed in a press release, that if this incident had occurred during the night while the residents were sleeping, the outcome could have been very different.

The home and its contents were considered a total loss, with damages estimated at approximately $120,000.
