Inverness, Florida – At 2:47 p.m. on Friday, September 12, 2025, Citrus County Fire Rescue was dispatched to a location on East Mars Court in Inverness, due to a report of a vehicle fire that was threatening a nearby building.

Fire units arrived at the location to find a Class A recreational vehicle (RV) fully involved in flames.

Fire crews from Fire Station 5 in Hernando, Florida quickly went into a defensive operation, pulling a hose line and working to protect surrounding exposures. An engine from Fire Station 24 in Floral City, Florida provided the water supply and assisted with mop-up operations. Firefighters fully extinguished the blaze, cooled hot spots, and confirmed there was no extension to nearby structures. The scene was turned back over to the owner when no further hazards remained. The last unit cleared the scene at 3:38 p.m.

The RV, a 2005 Tiffin Allegro Bay model, was deemed a total loss of approximately $32,500, which included the RV and its contents. No injuries were reported. The fire was determined to be the result of a mechanical failure in the engine compartment.

Safety Message from Citrus County Fire Rescue:
Vehicle fires can spread quickly, especially in RVs and larger vehicles. With this in mind, always carry a fire extinguisher rated for Class A, B, and C fires, perform regular maintenance, and never attempt to fight a fire that is spreading rapidly — call 911 immediately.

IN THE EVENT OF A FIRE, CALL 9-1-1.
