Bronson, Florida - At 3:00 p.m. on Sunday afternoon, April 9, 2023, the Levy County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) 911 Center received a call reporting that a person had been shot. Deputies responded to a duplex in the Town of Bronson and discovered 40 year old James Young, Jr. of Chiefland, Florida lying on the floor inside the home, deceased, with a single gunshot wound to his chest.
LCSO detectives determined that Young had previously been involved in a domestic relationship with the woman who lives at the duplex. Young had gone to her residence to confront her, armed with a handgun, and Young and the woman began to struggle. During the altercation, the woman retrieved her own firearm and fired once, striking Young in the chest. She fled to a neighboring home seeking assistance.
Detectives are still in the early stages of this investigation, and as of the time of the press release, no charges had been filed.
This investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact LCSO Detective Corporal C.J. Perryman at 352-486-5111, extension 240.
