On January 26, 2023, the Citrus County Sheriff's Office (CCSO) celebrated K-9 Anakin’s retirement after six-and-a-half years of dedicated service to the agency. K-9 Anakin's retirement ceremony took place at the agency's Emergency Operations Center, located at 3549 Saunders Way in Lecanto, Florida.
Anakin, who was utilized 485 times during his career, was an asset to the agency. During his years of service, Anakin located 28 people and apprehended 8. He sniffed 377 vehicles, locating narcotics 237 times, which resulted in the seizure of:
40,591.43 grams of marijuana
1,080.12 grams of methamphetamine
133.03 grams of heroin
853.88 grams of cocaine
K-9 Anakin will now enjoy his retirement, living with his handler, Deputy David Miller.
