UPDATED: Matthew Raye Mullins, 40, of Homosassa, FL, was arrested by the Citrus County Sheriff's Office (CCSO), charged with fleeing from a law enforcement officer, trafficking in fentanyl, trafficking in methamphetamine, possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell or deliver; possession of drug paraphernalia, and tampering with evidence ($113,000 bond).
Mullins, a long time drug dealer, according to the CCSO, was arrested after a detective observed him making a minor traffic violation, and he fled from the detective when he attempted to conduct a traffic stop. A short distance away, as Mullins traveled north through the intersection of CR 491 and W. Cardinal St. in Lecanto, FL, another deputy placed a tire deflation device which rendered Mullins's vehicle inoperable, and he discarded a bag of fentanyl from the vehicle's window and brouught his vehicle to a stop on the side of the roadway, according to a CCSO press release. The bag of fentanyl ruptured, and some of it was scattered across the grass shoulder. However, deputies recovered 51 grams, which is enough to kill approximately 25,500 people, according to Madeline Scarborough, a Community Relations Specialist with the CCSO. A search of Mullins's vehicle turned up approximately 199.7 grams of methamphetamine. On his person, Mullins was also found to be in possession of alprazolam pills and approximately 0.65 grams of fentanyl.
