UPDATED: Gerald Wayne Taylor, 64, of Inglis, FL, was arrested by the Levy County Sheriff's Office, Sept. 20, charged with battery, and resisting or obstructing an officer without violence ($10,000 bond). Around 9:15 pm, due to the report of a disturbance, a deputy arrived at an E. Cason Blvd., Inglis residence, to find three people standing in the yard, and a woman sitting inside a vehicle in the driver's seat, arguing about the vehicle. The arrest report stated, that when the deputy attempted to separate the people to interview them about what had occurred, the woman exited the vehicle and began to take a video with her cell phone. The deputy reported that Mr. Taylor attempted to swat the phone from the woman's hand, but ended up striking her left cheek, knocking her eyeglasses from her face. The deputy reported that he ordered Mr. Taylor to turn around and place his hands behind his back, but he did not comply, so the deputy grabbed Taylor's left wrist in an attempt to apply wrist restraints. In turn, the report stated, Taylor grabbed the deputy's arm to prevent him from applying the restraints, so the deputy pointed his taser (a self-defense weapon that fires probes that deliver non-lethal electric shocks) at Taylor and advised him that he would use it if Taylor did not comply, and Taylor replied that he'd been tasered before, while stepping toward the deputy, who in turn, activated his taser, striking Taylor and causing him to fall to the ground. After the shock cycle ended, Taylor complied with the deputy and was taken into custody. The deputy then spoke with all the parties involved in the argument and determined that no other crimes had been committed.
