Ocala, Florida - On October 1, 2025 a Marion County jury found Leslie Dale Boileau, Jr., of Ocala, guilty of one count of manslaughter with a firearm in the death of 25 year-old Polina Annette Wright in September 2024.
Ms. Wright, who lived in Ocala, was a former resident of Floral Ciy in Citrus Clounty, Florida.
Boileau was a patrol deputy who served 8 years with the Marion County Sheriff's Office; his employment was terminated upon his arrest. He was incarcerated at the Marion County Jail.
On September 19, 2024, officers with the Ocala Police Department responded to Boileau's residence, as the result a call from Boileau, who reported that he'd shot his girlfriend in an accidental discharge of a firearm.
First responders arrived at the location to find Ms. Wright, sitting in a chair, deceased, with a gunshot wound to her forehead. Numerous firearms and cleaning supplies were visible throughout the room, including the rifle Boileau told police officers he'd accidentally fired.
During a police interview, Boileau said that he and Wright had spent the day together before going to dinner at a Mexican restaurant where they each had several margaritas. He said they'd arrived at his home, around 8:00 p.m., to find that cleaning supplies he'd ordered online had been delivered. During a session of cleaning weapons, Boileau said he'd demonstrated to Ms. Wright how to fire a weapon, that he'd pointed the rifle in Ms. Wright's direction and pulled the trigger, which fired a round that struck her forehead.
Boileau is expected to serve a minimum sentence of 10 years and a maximum sentence of 30 years in prison.
According to Polina Wright's obituary, she was raised in Floral City, Florida and graduated from Citrus High School in 2018. She earned an Associate Degree in accounting from the College of Central Florida and worked as a bookkeeper in Citrus County, Florida for two years before moving to Ocala in 2021, where she worked in accounts payable.
