On August 20, 2025, 8/20/25, 32 year-old Tanner McDaniel of Williston, Florida entered an open plea to Levy County Circuit Judge William Davis, who sentenced him to serve 4 years in the Florida Department of Corrections. Upon his release from prison, McDaniel will serve an additional 10 years of sex offender probation, and he must also register as a sex offender for the remainder of his life.
In December 2024, Levy County Sheriff's Office Detective Blake Landfair was assigned to investigate an accusation of sexual misconduct made against Tanner, who at the time was a church youth leader. Tanner allegedly engaged in an inappropriate relationship with one of his students. During an investigation into the complaint, sufficient convincing physical, electronic, and testimonial evidence was gathered to obtain a warrant for McDaniel’s arrest. McDaniel was arrested a short time later, on January 11, 2025.
"Sexual-based crimes perpetrated against children are some of the most difficult to investigate," said Levy County Sheriff's Office (LCSO) Lieutenant Scott Tummond. "The detectives at the LCSO are relieved the victim and family were spared the additional trauma of a trial. Now, we hope and pray for the continued healing of this victim."
