According to the arrest report, the victim told a deputy that she and Freeman got into an argument, during which he wanted her to apologize for something she didn't feel she should apologize for. She said that he grabbed her by her arms and threw her onto the bed, then grabbed her by the back of her neck and forced her down to the floor. Trying to get away, she scratched at his chest, and he then allowed her to stand up, but as soon as she stood up, he head butted her right eye area, and then allowed her to leave the room. During the incident, she said, Freeman got her into a headlock from behind, which inhibited her breathing. The victim showed the deputy a text message from Freeman to the victim, in which Freeman apologized for the injury to her eye.
The deputy reported that the victim's right eye area "was severely swollen and bruised," that she had marks to the back of her neck and bruising to both forearms and upper arm areas.
The report stated that Freeman initially told the deputy that the argument was verbal, not physical, but he later told the deputy that he pushed the victim backwards, but nothing else had happened after that. The deputy reported that Freeman did not want to show the deputy the injury where the victim had scratched him in the chest to get away from him. However, he eventually told the deputy that the mark to his chest is where the victim had attacked him.
The deputy determined that Freeman was the primary aggressor in the incident, and placed him under arrest.

A deputy was dispatched to an Inglis residence due to a complaint of an argument that had turned physical. The deputy first spoke with Wharton, who said, that during the argument, he'd asked the victim to leave the residence and she at first had refused, but then decided to leave and requested the keys to a vehicle they share, and he refused to give her the keys, so she poured some of his alcohol down the drain, and he grabbed other bottles from her and tossed them aside, away from the victim.
The victim told the deputy that she'd been cooking beans for a burrito dinner, and Wharton told her that she was not going to eat his food, so he grabbed the pot of beans and threw it out of the front door. The deputy reported that the pot of beans was in the front yard. The victim said she started making a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, and Wharton threw the jar of peanut butter across he room, and a dog got into the peanut butter and vomited, so the victim picked up the peanut butter jar, which was damaged, and there was vomit on the floor.
