UPDATED:  Christopher David Evans, 52, of Inglis, FL, was arrested by the Levy County Sheriff's Office, August 13, 2025, charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill (no bond). He was also charged with possession of ammunition by a convicted Florida felon, and possession of a weapon by a convicted Florida felon ($15,000 bond).
The arrested report stated, that just before 6:46 p.m., deputies responded to an Inglis residence due to the report of a physical disturbance. The victim and the witness told deputies that Evans had thrown a piece of heavy deep drop lead (fishing sinker) at the victim, which had damaged an interior wall. The report also stated that Evans refused to speak with deputies.
While inside the home, a deputy noticed two firearms in the living room, within five feet of the front door: a 223-caliber Radical Firearms (RF-15) LLC semi-automatic rifle, fully loaded with one live chamber in the barrel, and a Mossberg 12 gauge pump action, shotgun with a 20-inch barrel that contained 4 live rounds of ammunition. Both firearms "were readily accessible" and would provide anyone with quick access and use of the weapons, the report stated. Both of the firearms located by the front door had been purchased in Ohio. The witness also told deputies that a pistol is kept in a bedroom.
An NCIC-FCIC (law enforcement database) check revealed that Evans had been convicted of a felony (distribution of marijuana) in Tavares (Lake County), Florida on September 3, 1996, which prevents him from legally owning or possessing a firearm or ammunition in Florida.
The report stated that the high capacity magazine of the semi-automatic rifle, designed to accept 30 rounds of ammunition, was being stored with only 28 rounds, a practice taught in the military and police academies, so that the magazine seats properly within the firearms' magazine and also provides a margin for error, ensuring smoother magazine insertion and reliable feeding, something Evans would be familiar with due to his military experience (as a disabled United States Military Veteran).
