Inverness, Florida – At 12:43 p.m. on Thursday, June 19, 2025, Citrus County Fire Rescue responded to a mobile home located on East Center Street in Inverness after neighbors reported smoke and flames coming from a mobile home.
Fire rescue arrived on scene at 12:50 p.m. to find the home 25% involved in fire. Firefighters initiated an aggressive fire attack with water on the fire by 12:53 p.m. Units from five additional fire stations arrived on scene to assist with fire suppression, searches, and overhaul operations.
Due to hoarding conditions inside the home, fire crews encountered zero visibility and significant obstacles during their search and suppression efforts. The fire was brought under control by 1:00 p.m. Crews remained on scene to conduct overhaul and safety checks until 3:28 p.m.
Despite the challenging conditions, the fire was fully extinguished without injury to firefighters. Unfortunately, pets inside the residence were not located. The Red Cross was contacted to assist the homeowner.
An investigation revealed that the fire originated in the master bedroom where numerous electronic devices were found plugged into a single outlet by the bed. The cause of the fire was determined to be an electrical malfunction.
Citrus County Fire Rescue cautions residents to avoid overloading electrical outlets, and to inspect cords and plugs for signs of wear or damage. Fire safety is everyone’s responsibility, and simple steps can prevent devastating losses.
