Dog perishes and resident receives minor injury in Floral City fire that destroyed home

Citrus County Fire Rescue (CCFR) 

Floral City, Florida – At 4:06 p.m. on Sunday, May 25, 2025, Citrus County Fire Rescue responded to a residence located on E. Urban Lane in Floral City, due to a reported fire.

Firefighters arrived on scene to find a triple wide modular home, approximately 50% involved in fire, which had extended to a nearby shed and several small areas of brush. A water supply was quickly established, an aggressive interior and exterior fire attack was conducted, and the brush fires were quickly brought under control. Due to the design and layout of the home, extended mop-up operations were required. All units cleared the scene by 9:33 p.m.

The two residents safely escaped the home with one of their two dogs. During search operations, firefighters located the family's second dog, deceased. At the owners' request, their pet was buried on-site by fire rescue personnel. One resident sustained a minor injury and was evaluated by medical personnel on scene, but declined transportation to a medical facility.

The Florida State Fire Marshal’s Office  to the location and is investigating the origin and cause of the fire.

The home and its contents were a total loss. Victim advocate services were contacted to provide support to the displaced family. 

Citrus County Fire Rescue issued a warning, "This incident is a reminder of how quickly fires can develop and spread. Working smoke alarms are critical in giving occupants early warning and time to escape. Alarms should be installed on every level of your home and in all sleeping areas. Test them monthly and change the batteries at least twice a year."
